Gate Supply Across Lancashire

Gates are sourced to the exact opening rather than sold off a standard-size shelf, in timber, powder-coated steel or composite, for anyone who wants the right gate supplied on its own or supplied and fitted together. John advises on material and style based on the site (rural farm entrance, suburban driveway, period property) rather than pushing whatever happens to be in stock.

Safety and Insurance

Automated gates are safety-critical installs. Every gate John automates, installs or services is checked against BS EN 12453, the standard that limits how much pressure a closing gate can exert, so it cannot close unsafely on a car, a pet, or a child.

Force settings, photocells and safety edges are checked against DHF (Door and Hardware Federation) guidance on every job, whether that is a new automation install or a routine annual service.

John the Gate Man carries public liability insurance covering all installation, servicing and repair work carried out on site, standard for every job regardless of size.

Gate Supply FAQs

Yes, supply-only is available for customers with their own installer or the ability to fit it themselves. John measures and specifies the gate to the opening either way, so a supply-only gate arrives correctly sized.

Standard timber and steel gates typically arrive within two to three weeks, while bespoke sizes, ironwork or matched period styles can take four to six weeks. Exact lead time is confirmed at order stage, not estimated loosely.

Timber gives a traditional look but needs regular treatment to handle Lancashire's weather; powder-coated steel is low maintenance and strong, well suited to farm and driveway gates; composite splits the difference, giving a timber-effect finish with less upkeep. John recommends based on the site's exposure and the owner's appetite for maintenance.

Yes, where a genuine style match is wanted, particularly on period or listed properties, John can source or arrange fabrication of a gate that matches existing ironwork or fencing rather than fitting a generic off-the-shelf design.

Yes, galvanised and powder-coated field gates in standard agricultural widths are supplied alongside residential driveway and garden gates, sized to the actual opening rather than a generic farm-gate width.

Most gates supplied by John are specified with later automation in mind, meaning frame strength and hinge points suit a motor even if it is not being fitted straight away. Ask at order stage if automation is a future possibility.

Gates are supplied to the exact opening measured on site or provided by the customer, from narrow pedestrian gates through to wide double farm entrances, rather than limited to a fixed catalogue of sizes.

Yes, manufacturer warranties on the gate itself are passed on in full and confirmed in writing at order stage, and any fitting carried out by John as part of a supply-and-fit order carries a separate workmanship guarantee.

Yes, John can show photos of previous completed jobs and, where practical, arrange to view a similar style already installed nearby, so the finish is agreed before the gate is ordered.

Powder-coated steel gates are available in a wide range of standard RAL colours, with black, dark green and anthracite grey the most commonly chosen finishes across Lancashire driveways.

Most like-for-like gate replacements do not need planning permission, but gates near a public highway boundary, above a certain height, or on a listed property sometimes do. John flags any genuine risk on the specific site before ordering.
